USENIX News Roundup: June 26, 2012
With Federated Conferences week June 12-15, this month was an exceptionally busy one for USENIX. If you weren't able to join us in person, you can still get a feel for the event by reading through the conference proceedings and watching the session videos.
Although we had a great turnout at Federated Conferences Week, we could do better. I'd like to see lots of new faces at USENIX events, in addition to the friendly, familiar regulars. In our Strategies for a Successful Career in Computing panel at the Women in Advanced Computing Summit, we talked about ways to increase the number of women in technology careers. Mentoring can be a huge help, as can setting an open, inviting tone for your community. You can also help female colleagues and students by encouraging them to submit papers and talk proposals to events and by bringing them with you to attend events.
Our first Women in Advanced Computing Summit was hugely successful, but don't expect the discussion to stop there. If you have suggestions for what USENIX can do to help increase the number — and raise the visibility — of women in advanced computing, please let us know in the comments or contact us.
